Hundreds of thousands of people are born on this earth every day, every moment -- they are born and they die, to vanish into clouds of Eternity.

Some leave their footprints on the sands of Time and blaze their names in golden words in pages of history. Others simply disappear from the world, without leaving a trail, without the world being aware of either their presence in their lifetime or their absence after their death.

But sometimes such rare human beings are born who enshrine their names in the hearts of the people whom they endear and enrich with love, compassion and selfless service.

This film is the story of one such man. He had his roots deep in the urban soil where he grew up. He loved the sleazy slums in which he lived. He defiantly served and identified himself with the poor around him. And he never bowed his head in front of cruel forces of authoritarian law that sought to trample of people.

He stood undaunted and unbent against shattering storms of cruelty and in-humanity when injustice was clothed in the respectable garb of legal authority, even when his own near and dear ones were taken away from him. His personal loss was great, but his tears could not down his anger and sorrow at the inhumanity of the rich and the powerful to his poor slum dwellers. The social cause was to him dearer than his personal bonds of love and blood.

He was not afraid of the brute force that was unleashed against him. Yet all this did not harden his soul that was innocent like that of a child. Like a Messiah, he dedicated his life to the upliftment, service and protection of the poor and the Suffering. In the battle for human dignity, he always stood for the rights and self-respect of those who were deprived and plundered.

This extraordinary man was christened by his poor masses with a name that expressed their love and admiration for their hero.

They called him "DAYAVAN"-THE COMPASSIONATE ONE!
